High Winds Cause Signal Outages, Downed Wires, and City Hall Closure

Due to a wind-related power outage, City Hall is currently without electricity and will be closed to the public for the remainder of the day, Friday, March 13, 2026.

Additionally, approximately 20 signalized intersections across the city are currently without power. Temporary stop signs have been placed at these intersections, but strong winds are also causing some of them to blow over.

Drivers should use extra caution and treat these intersections as four-way stops.

We are also seeing multiple areas across the city with downed wires. The Racine Police Department and Department of Public Works are working with WE Energies to identify and barricade those locations.

Please stay well away from any downed wires. It is not possible to know whether they are live at this time..

WE Energies crews will begin repairing outages and downed lines once it is safe to do so.

We appreciate your patience and understanding—and hope everyone is staying safe in today’s windy conditions.
