About the Department

Public Works

The City of Racine Public Works Department is one of the most public facing departments in the City, and is responsible for planning, building, and maintaining essential infrastructure and services including roads, bridges, sanitary sewers, public buildings, and solid waste and recycling collection.

The divisions of Engineering, Traffic, Solid Waste, Street Maintenance, Fleet Maintenance, and Building Complex work together to provide vital services in the area of public safety and public health. Maintaining roads (including snow and ice removal) and bridges, signs, and traffic signals insures the safe and efficient flow of traffic. Daily pick up and disposal of trash and recyclables contributes to a healthy, sustainable community.
