Scrap Metal Recycling

Information

The City of Racine accepts normal scrap metal commonly produced by households with our recycling program. Normal items include but are not limited to:

  • Aluminum Cans
  • Metal Cans or tins commonly used for food related items
  • Metal Pots and Pans
  • Miscellaneous non-electrical items that will fit in your cart

For items not listed here or larger quantities of metal scrap that will not fit into your cart. You may bring these items to our Racine Transfer Station Facility or bring it to a private party for recycling.

Racine Transfer Station Facility

For more information about Transfer Station visit our Bulky Waste drop off page. Please note most appliances require a fee to be disposed of by the City of Racine. Excess scrap metal being dropped off that will not fit into your recycle cart may be dropped off during normal hours of operation at no charge.

Memorial Scrap

Memorial Scrap, which is located off of Memorial Drive, accepts and pays for nonferrous materials. Our knowledgeable staff takes great pride in assisting customers in a timely manner and answering questions to maximize the value of the scrap.

We purchase all grades of aluminum, copper, brass and stainless steel as well as catalytic converters, vehicle batteries and aluminum cans. All of our scales have weights visible to customers, so the material weight can be seen.

Miller Compressing Company

Miller Compressing Company, accepts and pays for some Ferrous materials, including large appliances, water heaters, and miscellaneous scrap steel is purchased at our Racine Yard, off of Racine Street.

Whether you are part of the general public, a contractor, or a large commercial account, we can easily accommodate your steel recycling needs. Drive onto our vehicle scale for large loads or use the platform scale for the smaller ones. We have cranes and a forklift to assist in unloading large or heavy pieces, pallets or tote boxes.
