🪑About the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services Board

The City of Racine’s Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services (PRCS) Board is dedicated to protecting, preserving, maintaining, improving, and enhancing Racine’s natural and recreational resources.

The PRCS Board oversees:

  • Public parks, parkways, boulevards, and golf courses
  • City community centers, playgrounds, and cemeteries
  • Beloved institutions like the Racine Zoo and Wustum Museum

We work to ensure that Racine residents have access to safe, well-maintained, and vibrant spaces that support health, wellness, community connection, and environmental stewardship.

🌳 Forestry

Our Forestry Division manages approximately 28,000 trees located along city streets, in parks, and on public grounds. There approximately 10,000 additional sites where a tree can be planted.

  • Each year, arborists plant 1,300 new trees, remove 600 to 700 trees, and prune 6,000 trees.
  • We’re committed to growing and maintaining an urban forest that supports our city’s beauty, ecology, and resilience.

🏞️ Open Space & Parks

  • Over 1,150 acres of public open space across the city
  • 85 parks citywide
  • Maintained by a dedicated team of 23 full-time and 14 part-time-seasonal & student employees

These open spaces serve as the heart of our neighborhoods—places to gather, play, relax, and connect with nature.

🏠 Community Centers

Racine is home to five community centers, each one a welcoming hub for residents of all ages. These centers support year-round programming that fosters learning, recreation, creativity, and community engagement.

🪦Cemeteries
