Racine’s parks are the backdrop for festivals, parades, concerts, tournaments, and community celebrations. Parks Service staff provide the essential behind-the-scenes work that keeps these events safe, organized, and enjoyable for everyone.
Event Setup & Logistics
- Install staging, fencing, signage, and temporary facilities for events in city parks.
- Ensure electricity, water, and other infrastructureThe basic systems and services, such as transportation and power supplies needs are ready for festivals, concerts, and tournaments.
- Daily litter collection and trash management before, during, and after events.
Parade & Festival Preparation
- Prepare parade routes, prune trees, and clear pathways for public safety.
- Provide logistical support for signature events like Fourth Fest, Juneteenth, Salmon-A-Rama, and Root River Council programs.
- Work in coordination with Downtown Racine Corporation and other community partners to ensure smooth operationsThe fact or condition of functioning or being active..
Seasonal Programs & Year-Round Support
- Set up, maintain, and monitor playground programs and other seasonal activities.
- Support community sports leagues, tournaments, and public events throughout the year.
- Assist volunteers and partner organizations with cleanup, setup, and coordination for one-day and multi-day events.
Seasonal Breakdown
Spring
- Remove snow fencing and plow markers from park grounds
- Repair sod and turf damaged by snow and salt
- Begin seasonal mowing of hillsides, fields, and paths
- Clear trails, brush, and fence lines after winter storms
- Prepare park spaces for early-season events and partner programs
Summer
- Daily litter pickup in parks, beaches, and medians
- Extra litter pickup on weekends and during special events
- Regular mowing of turf, fields, and boulevards
- Playground, picnic, and trail safety inspections
- Brush and weed tree removal along fence lines and paths
- Assist with setup, staffing, and teardown for festivals
Fall
- Mulch and remove leaves from parks, boulevards, and event spaces
- Seed and repair turf areas
- Continue mowing until the end of the growing season
- Clear brush and prepare trails for winter
- Support fall events and seasonal community programs
Winter
- Limited litter pickup in open areas
- Snow fence installation where needed
- Tree and brush trimming in accessible areas
- Winter equipment maintenance and preparation for spring events and festivals
