Racine Farmers Market on the Lake to Open May 9 at Festival Park

A new weekly tradition is coming to Racine’s lakefront this spring.

Beginning Saturday, May 9, the Racine Farmers Market on the Lake will bring fresh, locally grown food, small businesses, and community programming to Festival Park. The market will take place every Saturday from May through October, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

While independently managed, the market is hosted at a City-owned facility and reflects a shared commitment to supporting local agriculture, expanding access to fresh food, and activating Racine’s lakefront and downtown.

A Fresh, Local Focus

The market will feature more than 60 regional vendors offering produce, eggs, cheeses, baked goods, flowers, and artisan food products. Organizers emphasize a producer-only model, giving visitors the opportunity to buy directly from the people who grow and make what they sell.

As the season progresses, the market will highlight what’s fresh and in season, creating an experience that evolves week to week.

A Place to Gather

Beyond shopping, the Racine Farmers Market on the Lake is designed as a community space.

Each week will include:

  • Live music from local artists
  • Hot food vendors and cold beverages
  • Cooking demonstrations featuring seasonal ingredients
  • Family-friendly activities and youth programming
  • Rotating themed events throughout the season

Interactive features like a Taste-It tent will allow visitors to try new foods, while children can participate in hands-on activities that introduce healthy eating in an approachable way.

Expanding Access to Fresh Food

The market also plays an important role in improving access to healthy food.

Through the Double Up Food Bucks program, shoppers using FoodShare (SNAP) benefits can receive a dollar-for-dollar match—up to $20 per week—to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables. The program helps stretch food budgets while supporting local farmers and strengthening the regional food system.

Participants can use their QUEST card at the market to receive matching funds, which can be used directly with participating vendors.

Start at the Market, Explore Downtown

The Racine Farmers Market on the Lake is positioned not just as a destination, but as a starting point.

Visitors are encouraged to make a morning of it—beginning at the market and continuing into downtown Racine to explore local shops, restaurants, and lakefront attractions. From coffee and breakfast spots to boutiques and galleries, the surrounding area offers a range of experiences within walking distance of Festival Park.

The market is expected to serve as a catalyst for increased foot traffic, supporting nearby businesses and strengthening downtown Racine’s role as a vibrant, walkable destination.

A New Lakefront Tradition

Set along the shores of Lake Michigan, the Racine Farmers Market on the Lake offers a welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike—bringing together fresh food, local talent, and community connection in one place.
