Are you a backyard mechanic?
If you are, then oil and oil filters should be very familiar to you. Do-it-yourselfers produce over 4 million gallons of used oil each year in Wisconsin. Along with the waste oil, close to 1 million oil filters are also changed.
Use a dirt-free pan to drain oil from your vehicle
Use a leak-proof container with a lid to hold oil
Drain out as much oil as possible from the old filter
Bring used oil and filters to Department of Public Works
Equipment Maintenance Garage or to a participating business
Be careful! Drain oil is a hazardous material
