Public Events
Requesting the RFD Safety House
RFD’s Safety House is a fun and engaging resource to teach children about home fire safety, home fire drills, and injury and burn prevention in the home. This resource is available throughout the City of Racine for specific events.
Requesting RFD at your event
With proper notice, RFD participates in community events whose primary focus is fire and life safety or free education for the whole family. We have several resources that may be requested including vehicles, personnel, and the RFD Safety House.
Youth Fire Intervention
Youth Fire Intervention is a program designed to educate children and parents about fire safety and the consequences of fire. Each family meets individually with a trained fire service educator. The educator will discuss the situation with the family and provide fire safety education. If a child needs additional intervention, such as counseling, the educator can link the family up with these services. Fire department services are free.
Referrals
Who can make a referral? Anyone who cares about the safety of a child can call for help:

Smoke Alarms
It is critically important for Racine residents to have working smoke alarms in their homes. Smoke alarms are early detection and life-saving devices in the event of a fire. Smoke alarms are available for purchase in a majority of hardware and variety department stores.
If you do not have a working smoke alarm, the Racine Fire Department can install some, for free, in qualifying households. Smoke alarms are available to be installed in single-family, owner-occupied homes within the city limits of Racine.
This program does not provide smoke alarms to prepare a home to be put on the market. Tenants should contact their landlord or management company regarding smoke alarms in a rental unit. In the event your landlord fails to provide/maintain smoke detectors, please contact the Fire Prevention Bureau.
