Overview & History

Opened on August 21, 2023, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring Mayor Cory Mason and PRCS Director Tom Molbeck

✅ Great For:

  • Dog owners wanting off-leash playtime in a secure and scenic environment.
  • Families — with kids running between playgrounds and adults enjoying nearby amenities.
  • Anyone seeking a social, friendly, and safe outdoor experience for their pets.

🐶 Dog Park Features:

  • Separate fenced areas: One for small dogs (≤25 lbs), another for large dogs (>25 lbs); dogs must be ≥4 months old
  • Visitors can bring up to three dogs per visit and are responsible for waste cleanup; aggressive behavior requires immediate leash –and removal
  • Spacious and well-maintained, the park offers seating areas, waste bag stations, and beautiful views of the Root River corridor

🌳 Island Dog Park Updates:

  • New trees have been planted throughout the park! As they grow, they’ll eventually provide natural shade for both dogs and their owners.
  • There are also plans in consideration for a small roofed shelter to offer a dedicated shaded seating area in the future.
  • While the dog park is designated for off-leash play within fenced areas, dogs on leashes are also welcome to walk along the Root River Pathway surrounding Island Park — a great way to enjoy a longer stroll with your pup!

These enhancements reflect the City’s commitment to making Island Dog Park a more comfortable and enjoyable space for all visitors—two-legged and four-legged alike!

Tips & Reminders
  • Bring your own baggies; while there are stations, supply depends on refilling schedules.
  • Park rules are posted at entrances—important to follow for everyone’s safety.
