Comprehensive and Confidential

Comprehensive and confidential care is provided to meet your needs and help maintain optimal sexual and reproductive health. Programs include testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy testing, emergency contraception, birth control, free sexual health supplies, and other reproductive and sexual health services.

All services are provided at the City of Racine Public Health Department’s Sexual & Reproductive Health Clinic, an inclusive, stigma-free environment. Services are available to people of all ages, gender identities, gender expressions, and sexual orientations.

Sexual Health Services

The Sexual & Reproductive Health Clinic provides testing and/or treatment for a variety of sexually transmitted infections, or STIs. Below is a comprehensive list of services available:

  • Chlamydia testing and treatment
  • Gonorrhea testing and treatment
  • Syphilis testing and treatment
  • Trichomoniasis, or “Trich”, testing (for females) and treatment
  • Herpes swab testing if you have symptoms (such as a genital, oral or rectal sore)
  • Hepatitis B & C testing (based on risk)
  • Testing and treatment for vaginal infections like yeast and bacterial vaginosis
  • Treatment of genital warts
  • HIV testing, counseling, and referrals for treatment
  • Mycoplasma Genitalium (based on risk)

Cost:

  • $30; includes most standard testing and treatment, some exceptions apply.
  • No billing for private insurance.

Pregnancy Testing

Pregnancy testing is available through the Sexual & Reproductive Health Clinic by appointment only. Walk-ins are welcome but appointments are encouraged to guarantee availability. During your visit, in addition to the determination of pregnancy status, clients will receive appropriate referrals for prenatal and/or other health services. These referrals may include the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Nutritional Program, the Racine County Home Visitation Network, Medicaid/BadgerCare enrollment, and contraceptive health services.

Emergency Contraception

There are two emergency contraception pills available, based on your individual health history and situation. Emergency contraception should be taken as soon as possible, and is effective up to 3-5 days after unprotected sex.

Things You Should Know

  • These pills will not prevent pregnancy during future unprotected sex, so you must plan to use contraception in the future.
  • These pills do not protect you against STIs. You should still use condoms and be tested for STIs regularly.

Birth Control

The Sexual & Reproductive Health Clinic offers various forms of birth control, including injectable and oral medications to prevent pregnancy.

Things You Should Know

  • You must adhere to the prescribed medication’s regimen to ensure effectiveness and prevent pregnancy.
  • Birth control does not protect you against STIs. You should still use condoms and be tested for STIs regularly.

HIV PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis)

The Sexual & Reproductive Health Clinic offers oral PrEP to help prevent HIV infection in those that are at high risk for getting HIV through sex or injection drug use.

Things You Should Know:

  • When PrEP is taken daily, it is 99% effective at preventing HIV in sexual transmission.
  • You must adhere to the prescribed medication’s regimen to ensure effectiveness.
  • PrEP does not protect you against STIs. You should still use condoms and be tested for STIs regularly.
  • It’s possible to leave the Sexual & Reproductive Health Clinic with medication in-hand or a prescription at your chosen pharmacy.

Cost:

  • All Clients: $30, which includes required STI and other testing

Free Sexual Health Supplies

Pick up free supplies at the Sexual & Reproductive Health Clinic. Supplies are available Monday through Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM (excluding holidays).

Available Supplies

  • Condoms
  • Dental dams
  • Finger cots
  • Insertable condoms
  • Water-based and silicone-based sex lube

If you are unable to pick up supplies in person, you can have them mailed to you for free. Read about our Mail Me Condoms Program.

Condoms and other harm reduction-related supplies are also available at a variety of locations throughout the Racine community through our Public Health Vending Machines and with the assistance of many community partners. View our Harm Reduction Map to find the resources most convenient to you.
